From First Production to Expansion: A Premium Ice Project in the US

United States · Premium Ice Supplier · TB30 · 3000kg/Batch · Business Expansion

For our customer in the United States, the clear ice project was never just about making transparent blocks. The goal was to build a commercial premium ice business serving customers such as cocktail bars, restaurants and events.

We supplied a TB30 clear ice block machine with a production capacity of 3000 kg per batch, together with supporting ice production equipment. The clear blocks provide the starting material for downstream cutting and shaping into premium ice products.

What makes this project particularly valuable as a Koller case is what happened after the first installation: the customer continued developing the business, added more equipment in 2023 and began planning for further production expansion.

Building a Business Around the Finished Ice

Clear ice blocks are not necessarily the final product a cocktail bar or restaurant buys.

After production, the blocks can move through cutting and shaping processes to create clear cubes, spheres and other specialty formats for different beverage applications.

That gives a premium ice producer more flexibility than relying on a single finished ice product.

For the U.S. customer, this was important because different buyers can have different requirements. Cocktail bars may want precisely cut cubes or spheres, while restaurants, events and other commercial customers may require different sizes, quantities or presentation formats.

The production system therefore needed to support a business built around multiple premium ice products rather than only block ice.

This also changes how production capacity should be understood.

The TB30 provides 3000 kg of clear ice per batch, but the commercial value of that production ultimately depends on what happens after the blocks leave the machine.

Cutting pattern, finished ice size, processing time and usable yield all affect how much saleable premium ice can be produced from each batch.

For this reason, we do not use a generic “profit per block” figure for the project. Actual returns depend on the customer’s finished products, local selling prices, processing costs and market demand.

The Project Continued After the First Installation

After the equipment arrived, we provided operating documentation, videos and remote technical support to help the customer move into regular production.

The business continued supplying premium ice to its market, and the cooperation did not end with the first equipment order.

As demand developed, the customer added another piece of ice production equipment in 2023. Further expansion of clear ice capacity has also been discussed as the business continues to grow.

This follow-up is an important part of the case.

Many equipment projects can demonstrate that a machine was manufactured, shipped and installed. A repeat investment tells a different story: the equipment has become part of an operating business that has moved beyond its initial setup stage.

We do not publish the customer’s revenue, selling prices or profit margin, so it would be misleading to attach an artificial ROI to that growth.

What we can document is the progression:

initial production → market operation → additional equipment → further expansion planning

That makes this U.S. installation more useful as a customer-growth reference than as a simple TB30 delivery record.

From a Clear Ice Machine to a Growing Production Business

For premium ice producers, increasing machine capacity is only one part of expansion.

Downstream processing has to grow with it.

If block production increases while cutting and shaping remain limited, the production bottleneck can simply move from the clear ice machine to the finishing area. Storage, packaging and order handling can eventually become constraints as well.

This is why we look at premium ice projects as production systems rather than standalone machines.

For our U.S. customer, the TB30 established a 3000 kg/batch clear ice production base from which different finished products could be developed for commercial beverage customers.

The later equipment addition represents the next stage of that business.

For us, that is the defining point of the project: it began with clear ice production and developed into an ongoing premium ice operation with additional investment as demand grew.
