From 3 Tons of Cube Ice to a Saleable Packaged Product

For our customer in Nigeria, producing cube ice was only the first half of the job.

The customer planned to sell edible cube ice into the local commercial market. We supplied a Koller CV3000 cube ice machine with a rated capacity of 3 tons per 24 hours. 3 Ton Koller Cube Ice Machine f…

But a commercial ice supplier does not earn revenue when ice leaves the evaporator.

The product still has to be collected, packed, stored and delivered.

That makes this project useful for understanding something often overlooked when planning an ice business: the machine produces ice, but the business has to turn that production into a saleable product.

What Happens After the Ice Is Made?

At rated capacity, the CV3000 can produce up to 3,000 kg of cube ice in 24 hours.

If a producer chose a 5 kg retail bag, that theoretical production would represent:

3,000 kg ÷ 5 kg = 600 bags

This is not the Nigerian customer's disclosed packaging format or actual sales volume. It simply shows the scale of downstream handling created by a 3-ton machine.

Six hundred bags do not pack themselves.

The business needs enough packaging capacity to keep up with production, freezer space to hold finished ice before dispatch, and a delivery system capable of moving the product into the local market.

A wholesaler selling larger quantities directly to restaurants or distributors would create a completely different workflow from a supplier selling hundreds of smaller bags.

The ice machine could remain exactly the same.

The operation after the machine would change.

The CV3000 as the Production Starting Point

The CV3000 uses automatic PLC control for ice making and harvesting, reducing repetitive operator involvement during normal production.

Koller’s CV range supports 22×22×22 mm, 29×29×22 mm and 38×38×22 mm cube formats. 3 Ton Koller Cube Ice Machine f…

For a commercial ice producer, the cube format should ultimately connect with the product being sold.

The customer is not simply choosing an ice shape from a catalogue. The selected ice needs to work with the target package, customer type and end use.

That is why we view the CV3000 as the beginning of the production flow rather than the complete ice business.

For a packaged ice operation, the full path looks more like:

water → cube ice production → collection → packaging → frozen storage → delivery → customer

A bottleneck at any stage can restrict the useful output of the whole operation.

A 3-ton machine connected to insufficient freezer storage does not create a 3-ton sales business. Neither does a 3-ton machine connected to a packing process that cannot keep up with production.

Designing Backward from the Finished Bag

For this Nigeria project, the CV3000 established a dedicated source of edible cube ice for local commercial supply.

The machine provides the production capacity.

The business around it determines how much of that capacity reaches customers as a finished product.

For investors planning a similar operation, we prefer to begin with the product at the other end of the line:

What will the customer actually receive?

A small bag sold through retail channels? Larger packaged quantities for restaurants? Bulk supply for distributors?

Once that is clear, packaging, storage and delivery can be planned backward toward the machine.

That is the most useful lesson from this Koller CV3000 project.

Three tons/day describes the ice machine. A working packaged-ice flow turns those three tons into a commercial product.
